Practical Application of Key Emerging Technologies

Abstract

There are countless emerging technologies with an impact on insurance, however, it could be said that there is a set of four technologies with more potential to profoundly affect insurance; the ABCD of insurance technology: Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud and Data

The four together become a strong enabler for digitalization: digital interactions, digital products, digital claims, all digital.

For each of these technologies, a section has been structured with its definition, its importance, its level of adoption, its application in insurance, its areas of impact along the value chain and evidence of insurers working in these areas. Each section can be read separately but the power of these technologies usually comes from the combination of them. For example, the use of intensive cloud computing to perform data analytics, by applying artificial intelligence in cases of automated underwriting.

Many of the examples throughout the report are case studies that have been recognized and documented as part of Celent's Model Insurance program.
