This past year has witnessed significant change in the Internet banking space. Consolidation occurred at rapid clip as vendors pursued more diverse and integrated platforms and jockeyed to increase market share, noted Meredith Hickman, an analyst at Celent. 2001 will be amake or break year for a handful of firms struggling to survive. We expect a further condensed market next year.

Fritz McCormick, co-author of the report, added "At the same time as Internet banking vendors are facing financial difficulties, there is huge pressure on them to add an ever increasing host of functionality, including wireless access, EBPP, wealth management and small business capabilities".

Financial Fusion has borne out Celent's prediction from last year that the company would make significant inroads and has taken the slot as the top ranked vendor in the large bank market. Corillian continues to merit attention as well, and is ranked top in the medium-sized bank market. For the second year, Digital Insight earned the top spot for the small bank market as well as second place in the mid-size market. The company continues to impress clients with its straightforward and honest approach and the breadth of modules available.

S1's two products, Consumer Suite and Internet Banking System, also take high honors. S1 has significantly improved over last years rather lackluster performance, by focusing on improving its customer service, expanding its feature set to be the most thorough financial services platform on the market, and investing in updating its technology.
