Celent Banking Newsletter, January 2013
From the Senior Vice President
I am delighted to be joining Celent as the new Senior Vice President of the Banking practice. I only wish that it were under happier circumstances: my predecessor Bart Narter, who has so capably led the group for five years, is leaving for health reasons. We all will miss him.
Because Bart's departure is so amicable, this has been and will be a smooth transition. I'll pick up Bart's coverage of core and mobile banking and anticipate no major changes to the team's coverage model over the next several months.
I'm looking forward to bringing to Celent a cross-vertical and cross-industry perspective that I developed at IBM's institute for Business Value and Deloitte Research. I believe that banks can learn a great deal not just from each other, but from other financial institutions, as well as other industries.
This is an exciting and challenging time for banking. Retail customers, exposed to the daily wonders of technology in other venues, wonder why their banks can't provide the same kind of experience. Commercial clients struggle with continuing technological change in the areas of data, mobile, and security. Ongoing regulatory challenges, an uncertain economic climate, and a host of nimble new competitors unencumbered by legacy systems make it even harder to find the budget to keep the lights on while investing to innovate and grow.
Celent helps banks do that, and do it efficiently. Our objective assessment of the trends and technologies of today and tomorrow gives our clients perspective that would take them weeks, months, or even years to develop. I'm proud and excited to join a world-class group of researchers and analysts who share a vision of helping banks make smart decisions about technology.
My arrival comes at an auspicious time; Celent’s Innovation and Insight Day is February 27 in my hometown of Boston, and we'll be announcing our Model Bank Awards (which we've just finished judging, and which include an exciting new category) at the gathering. I look forward to meeting many of you there.
