Munich, March 7 – 9, 2019
Team up and shape the future - under this motto the second #_hackNEXT took place on March 7-9 in the Munich Kohlebunker. 110 hackers, organized into 20 interdisciplinary teams, with goals high as revolutionizing the insurance industry with pioneering digital solutions competed for the first place in the hackathon challenge by developing their innovative ideas and software solutions for the insurance industry within 28 hours.
Ideas ranged from smart sales assistants to structured pension visualization and remarkable Bancassurance solutions. TABULARAZA, the digital transformation platform by zeb, was also present at the event. On the one hand, zeb was a co-organizer of the three-day event, on the other hand, zeb employees also fought with two teams for the first place of the Hackathon.
Besides the hacker challenge, a conference for experts and decision-makers of the insurance and financial industries was organized for the first time this year. It mainly discussed what changes in the "mindset" of intermediaries and insurers would be necessary to fully exploit all the benefits of digital technologies. In particular, existing analogue processes are not only need to be reproduced in digital form but according to the vast majority of speakers also completely redesigned. In addition, developers also benefited from professional exchanges with about 60 conference participants from the insurance and financial industries as well as they got valuable support from API coaches.
The first place, with the prize of 10,000 euros, was finally won by team Xmen for an app that builds up the retirement provision with micropayments, i.e. small amounts of money. Second place and € 1,500 went to team InsurIT for a good bancassurance solution. The application makes automatic recommendations of the right products at the right time to its customers and focuses on event-related suggestions. Third place went to team I-Gent. The hackers designed an intermediary dashboard to facilitate interaction with customers across all communication channels, including social media.
The intention of the #_hackNEXT, organized by the insurance analysts Franke und Bornberg GmbH, the creative agency Kaiser X Labs GmbH, the technology consultants DataArt Inc, and the strategy and management consultancy zeb, is to further develop the innovative hackathon format in the insurance industry. The forum thrives on the dynamic interaction between participants with different backgrounds and knowledge, and on the exchanges of participants with insurance and finance executives.
