Celent recently gathered a select group of Sell Side senior leaders from banks of various sizes and geographies to discuss adoption of Generative AI in capital markets under Chatham House rules, with a focus on use cases and approach. Patrick Wegner, Senior Analyst, Celent Capital Markets, led the discussion, while Monica Summerville, Head of Capital Markets, and Dayle Scher, Principal Analyst, Back-office and Settlements, lent their deep knowledge of markets and technology and contributed to the discussion.

Attendees included CTOs, Head of Risk Technology, Head of Digital Strategy, Heads of Market Structure, Head of AI Product and Head of Front Office Product. The combined market cap of the companies present was 862 billion USD, and included executives from 4 of the world's top ten banks. During the session, we discussed whether Gen AI is changing approaches to innovation at banks, considering potential for such profound and accelerated change.

However, the main focus was in three main areas, firstly Gen AI use cases and challenges, secondly, return on investment (ROI) from Gen AI technology, and thirdly, success factors leading to a sustainable advantage. We rounded out the session exchanging looks into the future.
