UK Cheque Imaging: Learning from the US Experience
      Williams Would be Proud

//UK Cheque Imaging: Learning from the US Experience

"A smart man makes a mistake, learns from it, and never makes that mistake again.
But a wise man finds a smart man and learns from him how to avoid the mistake altogether."

      — Roy H. Williams

The US began its check truncation initiative with the "Check 21" legislation enacted in 2015. The UK is in the midst of theirs now. The US experience overall was favorable, but could be improved upon. There are many and varied reasons why the UK is doing things differently. Its implementation is a great example of the kind of wisdom Roy H. Williams expressed in the above quote.

The Cheque and Credit Clearing Company is a non-profit industry body responsible for managing the cheque clearing system in the UK. It provides value to both the UK banking industry and consumers. Celent was approached to provide insight for its Annual Review and its blog. The blog post is available here.

For a more in depth view on what other jurisdictions can learn from the US check 21 experience, see the Celent report, Reflections on a Decade of Cheque Truncation: What Others Can Learn from the US Experience.
