Telespine was founded by Dr. Mark Barnes in 2006. Previously, he owned and operated multiple businesses in physical and occupational therapy including facilities focused on evidence-based care, cost-containment, and employee health for large self-insured companies including IBM, Safeway, King Soopers, Amgen, and Boulder County/City workers. Dr. Barnes led growth in these entities using outcomes data for self-insured employer customers and developed multi-provider (medical/rehabilitation) collaborative clinical care teams to achieve superior outcomes for occupational employee health and wellness.As a Doctor of Physical Therapy practicing for 26 years, Dr. Barnes has provided rehabilitative care to over 12,000 patients primarily consisting of complex spine conditions making up 82% of patient type under care. Specifically, Dr. Barnes developed evidence-based treatment and patient management strategies that focused on patient engagement and self-management of neck and low back pain. The approach has been applied to over 100,000 neck and back patients within the clinical setting.

In 2006, to solve the problem of engagement impacting adherence in clinical care and successful patient outcomes, Dr. Barnes created patient-centric telehealth software called Tx Xchange, used by 300 provider users and over 80,000 patient users to extend care beyond the clinic. In early 2014, Dr. Barnes converted Tx Xchange telehealth software into Telespine Inc., a digital healthcare, mobile application focused on online treatment and management of neck and low back pain.

Today, Telespine has thousands of customers, with an eligible population of nearly 1,000,000 lives. Reached both directly and through our partners (Teladoc, Welltok, WellView, FlexCare) we work with actively employed populations, including unionized, healthcare delivery, white-collar, and manufacturing workers ad their dependents. We are on a mission to improve the quality of life for the millions of people who suffer from neck and/or back pain.
