Overview

m2Data provides a generic bridging mechanism for translating external feeds from Custodians, Banks, Market Information providers and in-house systems into a common XML message schema designed for a very wide range of investment related transactions and supporting data. m2Data caters for feeds from sources as diverse as UBS, ASX, Telekurs, Pershing, Credit Suisse, ETrade, IDE etc and is continually adding new input connections.

m2Data is comprised of a series of 'tasks' which are managed within an automated work-flow platform known as C2. Each generic 'task' performs a specific function in the transformation sequence applicable to each interface input and required output. The 'tasks' include:

  • Retrievers
  • Extractors
  • Adaptors
  • Requestors
  • Submitters
  • Disseminators

M2 is designed to accept the data formats and transmission protocols of many of the major financial institutions and back-office settlement systems and to translate these messages to a single format specification irrespective of source. m2Data caters for feeds from sources as diverse as UBS, ASX, Telekurs, Pershing, Credit Suisse, ETrade, IDE etc and is continually adding new input originators.

When used standalone, m2Data provides the means to channel multiple data feeds of differing formats into a single specification for use as input to new or existing systems without having to be concerned about the different originating formats or protocols. In this way, large financial institutions can provide a secure standardised data service to multiple third-parties via M2 with minimal daily operational impact (they only deal with M2) and no development impact to meet the varying technical and formatting requirements of the third-party systems.

The 'generic' design of m2Data provides the flexibility to handle any combination and recombination of input data, a normalisation stage to ensure validity and consistency of data and a range of output options. This flexibility includes the ability to 'wrap' proprietary protocols and formats. M2 has now developed 'Adaptors' for many different input interface feeds, the 'patterns' of which can be 'reused' for new interfaces, significantly reducing the lead-time for take-on of new interface feeds.

m2Data is used by M2 directly to feed into m2Advisor, m2Web and m2Mobile and as a standalone product for Banks and other Financial institutions to manage their data-bridging requirements.
