GENEOS USE CASE: Effective FX Trading Systems Management with Geneos
This client, a huge North American buy-side firm, researches and executes Foreign Exchange (FX) investment strategies for businesses, government bodies and high net-worth individuals across the globe. They are famed for this service which consists of multiple products, including forwards, non-deliverable forwards, options and spot FX.
With mounting volumes and regulatory scrutiny in FX markets, greater visibility into the post trade environment is central to success. However, as the market is so fragmented this is no simple task. Comprehensive end-to-end solutions are required that enable users to monitor a transaction along front, back and middle office technologies.
In this instance, our client’s post trade infrastructure is underpinned by 17 applications, creating thousands of potential flows. Visibility into the health of each of these applications would help their support teams to recognize when there are issues such as failures or delays and, in turn, better manage trade lifecycles, the benefits of which are outlined below.
Geneos collects and analyses key performance metrics of these applications in real-time. This data is then published to intuitive dashboards. Given the real-time element, any potential problems are identified in their infancy and FX Service Delivery notified through a configurable rule and alert engine.
Users then kick-off automated responses to incidents. For instance, if a Network File System (NFS) mount from an application is more than “95% failed”, Geneos will display a critical warning, prompting a clean-up of the server’s partitioning. In the case of an “unknown fix”, the contextual information sent via the Geneos Gateway provides a starting point for further investigation, reducing previously lengthy resolution times.
As a result, proactive monitoring is achieved, preventing critical issues that can impact not only hardware but business applications and flows too. From a business lens, this means that trades are settled within their defined timeframe (T+2) and the company’s SLAs met. This improves trading relationships with clients, prevents costly compliance breaches and allows support to easily depict operational efficiency to functional heads.

This large amount of data to reveal any applications that are performing poorly. Actions can then be started in response to specific events, equipping FX Service Delivery with enhanced monitoring and incident management capabilities.
Geneos Dashboards provide a holistic view of their post trade environment, enabling support to address and solve issues before they affect the business. Moreover, these dashboards can be shared through a web server so that anyone in the enterprise can access them. In the event of a production problem, this greatly improves visibility and communication.
