There has been a lot of discussion in the news recently around cash, and most notably,the recent UK independent report “Access to Cash Review”(https://www.accesstocash.org.uk/). This report got a great deal of attention in the press.

Given I’m best known for my work in non-cash payments, some may presume I might have a bias against cash. Far from it - I worked at VocaLink which runs the UK ATM network, and at a subsidiary of G4S, which fills much of those ATMs! I’d like to think then I can see this in a balanced way.

I think the report does raise many valid points – but equally misses some balance in places, and doesn't necessarily consider all the potential remedies.
